Summer Grilling Safety Tips

Grilling at summer weekend

Most of the country is finally starting to shake the last bit of snow from their boots, which means summer is nearly here. And that means one of the great American pastimes is about to emerge from hibernation: cookouts. It usually doesn’t matter what you’re cooking, as long as you’re grilling you’re bound to have a great time with family and friends. Hurry in to your local home appliance store to get a quality grill for all of your summer cookouts. To make sure the party continues all summer long, here are some important grilling safety tips.

Take a Walk

Whenever you grill outside, the grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. If you can step outside your backdoor and instantly flip a burger, your grill is too close to your home.

Stay Close

When the grill gets going, you won’t be going anywhere. Bring everything you need with you outside so you don’t need to go into the kitchen and leave the grill unattended. It’s especially important to keep a close eye on the grill if you have pets or small children running around.

Turn it Off

If you are using a propane grill, make sure to turn the propane tank off as soon as you take the food off the grill. If you wait to turn the gas off, you may forget about it. This can create a potentially dangerous situation for you and your family.

Keep it Clean

Remove grease or fat buildup from the grills and in the trays below the grills to prevent flare-ups. Giant, leaping flames may look cool, but they can be dangerous if you are leaning over the grill or wearing loose fitting clothing.
