Loading your dishwasher may seem like a simple enough task, but there are some general guidelines you will want to follow in order to get the most out of your new appliance. Start by placing your pots, plates, and heavy-duty items on the lower rack, as the heat and water pressure is stronger at this level. When stacking your plates, consider staggering small plates in between large ones, as this will keep them from falling over during the cycle. The top rack should be reserved for glasses, mugs, and bowls, leaving some space along the sides of the top rack for pots, pans, and large cookware items.
As a good rule of thumb, you will want to make sure that none of your dishes are directly touching one another, as this may cause them to chip. You will also want to make sure that any silver or stainless steel cookware items are separated, because the metals can be damaged due to chemical reactions of the silver.
